De titel, TOCCATESSA is een eigen gevonden term die slaat op een beknopte toccata (maximale lengte 5 minuten).
Het tempo is meestal gematigd (moderato), een snel tempo heeft niet de eerste prioriteit.
De componist streeft in de toccatessa naar eenvoud met name in de vorm, niet persé in de speeltechniek.
Er komen minimalistische elementen en hele toons-fragmenten voor.
Er komen avontuurlijke modulaties voor.
Soms zijn vingerzetttingen genoteerd, maar de speler kan even zo goed zelf een vingerzetting ontwikkelen want de genoteerde vingerzetting is een suggestie.
Ook registratieaanduidingen zijn suggesties.
Mijn motief om een vingerzetting te noteren is in wezen privé, dan heb ik immers altijd mijn vingerzetting bij de hand.
De toccatessa maakt deel uit van de serie MOVEMENTS waarvan de componist hoopt dat als er werken uit deze serie gespeeld worden tijdens een concert, er meerdere delen uit deze serie gespeeld worden.
Niet alle movements hebben de vorm van een Toccatessa.
Er zijn ook andere vormen gecomponeerd en gepubliceerd in de serie Movements zoals bijvoorbeeld een Carillon en een Chaconne.

The title, TOCCATESSA, is a term coined by the composer to refer to a short toccata (maximum length 5 minutes).
The tempo is usually moderate (moderato); a fast tempo is not the primary focus.
In the toccatessa, the composer strives for simplicity, particularly in form, not necessarily in playing technique.
Minimalist elements and whole-tone fragments appear.
Adventurous modulations occur.
Fingerings are sometimes notated, but the player can also develop their own, as the notated fingering is merely a suggestion.
The registration markings are also suggestions.
My motive for notating a fingering is essentially personal; after all, it means I always have my fingering at hand.
The toccatessa is part of the MOVEMENTS series, and the composer hopes that when works from this series are performed during a concert, multiple movements from the series will be played.
Not all movements are toccatessa-style.
For example, a Carillon and a Chaconne have also been composed and published in the Movements series.
